About Alexander
Alexander K. Griffin was a married man full of dreams and aspirations. Tragically, his journey was cut short while pursuing those dreams.
A natural-born athlete, Alexander loved bowling, football and baseball. At various ages, he bowled in a few different leagues including Cambria Heights Jr. Bowling League as well as a men’s league: the Garden City Bowling League. As a football lover, Alexander stayed committed to the Jets. He played in several football leagues: the Brooklyn Queens Football League (BQFL) and Flushing Bayside Sports Football League (FBSFL). A renowned Mets fan, Alexander played with the Rochdale Village Baseball League from T-ball to the majors.
His career aspirations were to become a firefighter. He loved the brotherhood that the field represented. Alexander was following in the footsteps of his older brother, who is a FDNY firefighter with Engine 260. With a determination to join the men of Engine 260, where he first felt the embodiment of brotherhood within the profession, Alexander not only wanted to protect the people of NYC – it was to be the family’s legacy.
Unfortunately, that dream was cut short on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 when Alexander collapsed on Randall’s Island, while preparing for his final test before joining the FDNY.
The Alexander Kristofer Griffin (AKG) Foundation was created to continue Alex’s legacy of camaraderie and good sportsmanship. The foundation will support young leaders as they pursue and achieve their dreams and aspirations.
